{"id":789,"date":"2025-03-25T15:10:01","date_gmt":"2025-03-25T20:10:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cookbook.deamaree.com\/?p=789"},"modified":"2025-03-25T16:37:52","modified_gmt":"2025-03-25T21:37:52","slug":"stewed-apples","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cookbook.deamaree.com\/?p=789","title":{"rendered":"Stewed Apples"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ingredients<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>5 to 7 tart cooking apples (Granny Smith)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3\/4-1 cup sugar<span style=\"color:#e87e00\" class=\"has-inline-color\">*<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 tablespoons all-purpose flour<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>dash of salt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 tsp cinnamon<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 tablespoons butter cubed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Directions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mix sugar, flour, salt, and cinnamon in a large pot.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Peel, core, and thinly slice apples. Place the sliced apples in the pot and toss to coat.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Let sit for 3-5 minutes to allow apple to release some juice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add cubed butter to the pot and mix gently.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Heat over medium heat, stirring frequently (gently), until sugar has melted and juices begin to boil.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reduce heat and simmer, stirring often, until apples are tender and semi-translucent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the syrup starts to get too thick, add a tablespoon of water, stir and continue to simmer. You may have to repeat this a couple of times. Just keep an eye on it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Repeat until apples are to your liking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Serve immediately or let cool completely before storing covered in the refrigerator.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Notes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color:#e87e00\" class=\"has-inline-color\">*<\/span>You can use either white or brown sugar.
